Lorelei Lee is a new band collective around Sonja Romei and Palme in co-operation with musicians from formations like Fatima Spar & The Freedom Fries, 78plus and many more. An interface between styles such as downbeat, jazz, chanson and pop, creates wonderful music. Lorelei Lee call their music “Minimal Soul” – a timely diversification of established genres and club sounds. Palme’s beautifully fragile tapestries of sound made out of beats&clicks&cuts form the base of the warm and groovy music that accompanies Sonja’s powerful voice. All these ingredients melt together into mellow songs with drive and catchy melodies – which have all been composed by Romei and Palme themselves.
Lorelei Lee have been influenced by 90s downtempo music, old school soul as well as 20s to 40s burlesque revue music and artists like Billie Holiday and Nina Simone. The songs are sung in German and in English as language plays an important part in the tapestry and is a part of the composition. Language is not used as an end in itself, but as a creative resource.
