The founding of the formation EKG and the recording of the CD “A Word to the Sufficient” can be backtracked to the request of a producer; the fact that the original intention was never remotely fulfilled but the recording was produced anyway, speaks for him: the producer and “Handsemmel” label boss Klaus Nüchtern. What he asked for was a contemporary meditation over the Evangelist church song-book that goes straight to the heart. Nothing less than such fantastic hymns like “Nun ruhen alle Wälder ” or “O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden” were adapted; one feels inspired to write, compose and even sing one’s own heart-warming song.
Heart tones should certainly be heard, and he whose heart is full, is known to sing: singing, melody and song are at the centre of the effort to transform emotions into music; not as a floating, emotional outpouring, but as the concentrated cooperation of a quartet, whose experiences of the old and new, the noted and improvised, acoustic and electronic music are brought together to help the word become sonorous verisimilitude – above all those of the American poet Kenneth Patchen (1911 – 1972).
