Wien – Oslo / Oslo Wien: the flight time for one way is around two hours.
That’s enough time to listen to Harriet Müller-Tyl’s debut album “Insomnia” and to some pieces even twice! That way I can memorize the atmospheric passages better. The delicate songs of the Norwegian singer and composer are a mixture of folk and jazz, and automatically call pictures to mind of calm lakes and clear air.
At the beginning of the 90s, Harriet Müller-Tyl relocated her life from Ås to Vienna. However, she remains connected to her homeland through her music of calm and wistful melodies with Norwegian lyrics. Harriet Müller-Tyl’s voice is at the center of the music: warm with soft nuances and at the same time crystal clear. She collides with Alegre Correa Band’s harmonica – Bertl Mayr, with virtuous jazz guitar – Heimo Trixner and with Nu-Jazz bass lines á la Café Drechsler – Oliver Steger.
The album “Insomnia” enchants through its distinct line-up as well as through the selection of songs and their unusual language. The moody lyrics and melodies tell stories about love and life, and invite the listener onto a musical journey from the Norwegian Middle Ages to present day Vienna.
