Artists: Philipp Nykrin (p,synths, electr), Andi Tausch (guit), Jojo Lackner (b), Herbert Pirker (dr)
Following his debut album “Open Ended” (2007), the young Austrian musician and composer Philipp Nykrin is back with his second release “Common Sense”. The spacious structures and stirring music rich in contrast surrounds Nykrin’s creative piano style. He enhances the pure acoustic band sound with additional electronic components that enable him to develop suspenseful and surprising compositions. The wide-ranging live experience the jazz pianist has collected over the last year as a key-boarder, producer and sound designer come to fore here. As his forum, Philipp Nykrin has selected a new quartet line-up of young musicians from the Viennese scene who share his musical views and implement them on “Common Sense”: JoJo Lackner (bass) supplies the fundament of the band. Andi Tausch (guitar) acts as an expressive soloist as well as a subdued accompanist and Herbert Pirker (drums) leaves his imprint on the sound of the band with his individual approach between urban beats and contemporary.
