Who isn’t familiar with those legendary films and TV shows from the 60s and 70s such as „Breakfast at Tiffany’s“, „The Thomas Crown Affair“, „Bullitt“, “UFO“ or “Columbo”. In addition to their bodacious design, legendary actors and just plain coolness, these films have something else in common too: their unforgettable music!
The 17 piece orchestra “Velvet Elevator” was founded by Martin Ptak and Heinz Fallmann. Their mission is to retrieve those sounds from the past and bring them back to the present and follow in the steps of orchestra greats such as Henry Mancini, Les Baxter, Hugo Montenegro or Percy Faith. The cinematic and danceable arrangements on “At The Movies” cover a range of styles from 1970s American car-chase scenes to Bossa Nova, Funk, Cha Cha and Jazz. Well known melodies such as “Fly Me To The Moon“ and “The Windmills Of Your Mind“ were arranged by Martin Ptak and Heinz Fallmann especially for Velvet Elevator and the vocals are interpreted by the charming singer Carolin de Rooij.
